Artist Statement
My work centers on portraiture as a form of storytelling. I am drawn to the expressive power of the eyes and facial features, capturing emotion and the unseen narratives carried within each individual.
I primarily work in monotype, a once off printmaking process that reflects the nature of life itself. While actions may be repeated, outcomes are never the same. This philosophy connects closely to the game of chess, where each move shapes a unique result.
In recent work, I focus on youth and childhood, inspired by the way children live with joy, curiosity, and presence. In the James Series, floral patterns symbolizing strength are embedded into the figure, challenging ideas of softness and power. Blind embossing represents guiding light and protection, while the evolving character reflects growth, identity, and possibility.
